The extreme important moments of Caravelle hotel team

Chef Bao and his team members have just spent an intense 8 to 9 hours competing in “the secret black box” round. This is the final round of 2014 Golden Spoon Contest held on December 10th 2014 in Binh Duong province.

The black box of Chef Bao’s team includes: 1 2kg live hemibagrus catfish; 1 kg of Christmas lima beans; and 1 kg of beef tenderloin. One chef with slightly Western features used only 15 of his allotted 30 minutes and still managed to prepare an interesting menu: prawn mixed with green mango; bacon seasoned with pink pepper; Soup of hemibagrus catfish and also a fillet breaded and deep fried with mashed sweet-potato; Sauteed beef tenderloin and jelly of beetroot and cassava and stir-fried vegetables (melon, carrot, radish etc) with basil leaves. French pancake stuffed with Christmas lime beans plus coconut jelly served with strawberry sauce flavored with durian.

The Judges was rating the presentation skill for Chef Bao’s team

The 45 professional chefs from all three regions were excited and tired from waiting for the results from the judges. Those who were eliminated from the preliminary round, started to discuss and predict the winner:

- Surely the champion must be “Đệ Nhất hotel”

- No, Binh Quoi will win the prize

- Hyatt Regency Danang was also a strong contender

Surely, Caravelle will win the VND 1 billion. This team made all the difficult dishes and its presentation was also very beautiful. Who wants to bet 10 to win 8?

And then it will be very difficult to have any image that could be more beautiful than all three of them had jump out of their chairs with happy screaming and running up to the stage to receive the reward. Chef Khanh Ngo Lam Tran – responsible for cake have tear in her eyes and the captain lift up the Cup and pursed his lips to hold tears as he want to be stronger than Chef Khanh- a chatter young chef that couldn’t keep her happiness and emotion inside.

The first prize: Caravelle Hotel (HCM City) received the Cup and VND 1 billion (comprising VND 500 million in cash and VND 500 million in products)

4 second prizes: De Nhat Hotel (HCM City), the Grand Ho Tram Strip (Vung Tau), Hyatt Regency Danang Resort & Spa (Danang) and Sunway Hanoi Hotel. All teams received VND 100 million (comprising VND 50 million in cash and VND 50 million in products

1 encouragement prize “Nutritious dish”: Bao Chau Boutique Sapa (Lao Cai) received VND 50 million (comprising VND 25 million in cash and VND 25 million in products

In Addition, at the awarding ceremony there is a special prize for “Dedicated young chef” awarded to Chef Tuyen Huynh Dang Nguyen (An Hoa Restaurant from Ben Tre province)
